Your Ecological Footprint, continuedThe world’s resources are not distributed evenly. At the moment, people in the richer countries of the world, like Australia, make up only 20% of the world’s population but use about 80% of the world’s resources. It is unfair to assume that the rest of the world’s people must remain poor so that we can continue living the way we do. So, it is up to us, as the richer 20%, to rethink and change our habits. If we can all reduce our individual ecological footprints, then the standard of living in poorer countries will be able to improve without increasing damage to the environment. To calculate your own personal ecological footprint, and find out more about footprinting visit a great ecological footprint calculator at www.rprogress.org. Friends of the Earth Europe, 2002.
